ABSTRACT: This paper presents the prototype of a new system tool with Virtual Reality support for model tests on the Ocean Basin at COPPE/UFRJ. The Ocean Basin at COPPE/UFRJ has been designed to carry out model tests of ocean structures and equipments used in the exploration and production of oil and gas offshore. Equipped with sophisticated multi-directional wave, sea current and wind generator systems the new facility will be able to produce a quite realistic representation of the ocean environment. The system presented here can be used as a Real-time Monitoring tool for the experiment underway or as Post-processing tool. The system not only allow to review the model test signal, but allows to query additional values and makes visual check not only by the real cameras. The association of artistic elements only used on movies and games are introduced in real engineering simulations creating a new way to everyone understand and interact with this scientific data.
