ABSTRACT:Distance learning is becoming an attractive alternative method of training and education in logistics. The changing environment, rapid development of new concepts and technical solutions require permanent education. Web-based training enables individually tailored learning pace. Some of the other advantages of are presented in this paper, together with some drawbacks of distance learning pointed out by Polish students and logisticians. One of the good opportunities for the development of web-based logistics training is the POLLOCO (Polish Centre of Logistics Competence) project realised by the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing. The main objective of the POLLOCO project is to support the development of the transport infrastructure that will allow interoperability. The operations of POLLOCO, working in close liaison with European networks of excellence and competence, are an innovative way of gathering knowledge of the highest quality and putting it to practice. The web-based system of communication, exchange of knowledge and distance training, provided by POLLOCO, will be accessed through the project webpage and is planned to become operational in 2004.
