ABSTRACT: Textile industry in Mexico is largely a family business run on traditional methods, old machinery and heavily dependant on human labour. All this makes Mexican textile industry very inefficient. However, textile industry is of great importance for the economic development of several regions of Mexico. In 2001 Mexico was the main supplier of textile products to the USA; 730,000 people work in the Mexican textile industry. The purpose of this work is to build a simulation model that can be used to improve the efficiency of the production process in a type of textile firm which is representative of many of its kind in Mexico. In this sense, our intention is to build a generic model, although at its present state it works only for the firm used as case study, a beachwear manufacturer.
