ABSTRACT:This paper analyses operational level production planning in multi-item, multi-stage manufacturing systems, which are characterized by high degree of complexity. Simulation and knowledge based methods are argued to provide most adequate representations of such systems. However, these methods are criticized because of high deployment costs. In order to address this shortcoming, an automated simulation model building approach is presented and a preliminary methodology for application of the knowledge based scheduling is proposed. Application of the knowledge based scheduling is illustrated by an example.
KEYWORDS: Simulation, scheduling, regression based learning.
