ABSTRACT:This paper covers questions and problems referring development of virtual 3D environment for discrete event simulation of logistics systems. In simulation modelling mainly text-oriented modelling languages or 2D graphical notation tools are used but computer graphics are basically used for the depiction of action and results of developed simulation models. Therefore there arises a question about opportunities to use 3D computer graphics and visualization methods for developing of unified virtual 3D simulation environment which would provide a graphical and interactive development process of simulation models, their verification and validation, and representation of models in action. Several things are discussed in this paper: advantages of 3D depiction built on visualization theory, architecture of 3D visual simulation environment that is based on usage of simplified hierarchical activity cycle diagrams as well as possibilities of 3D simulation model development usage in logistics modelling.
