ABSTRACT: This paper outlines the further development of a simu-lation framework called DESMO-J (Discrete Event Simulation Modeling in Java), for the special application field of container terminal logistics. DESMO-J is a class library for rapidly implementing discrete event simu-lation programs in the popular object-oriented pro-gramming language Java (i.e. the host language of the tool) providing predefined classes for specific simulation functions (event lists, queues, random numbers, statistics, etc.). The framework architecture and the functionality of the simulation class library are described and the ex-tension with domain-specific classes for harbor logistics presented. The simulation framework DESMO-J is pub-lic domain software under GNU general public license and widely used in simulation classes as well as research and development projects at the University of Hamburg.
