Mission of the Center: (during the restructuring period of 2001-2002)
(during 2002-2003
mission will also include: networking with other MISS Centers)
The
Ottawa Center of the MISS network (OC-MISS/SCS) is committed to promoting the
modelling and simulation discipline within Ottawa's National Capital Region.
Through both individual and collaborative projects, members of the Center will
contribute to advancing the state-of-the-art of the discipline. Efforts will be
undertaken to enhance both the educational opportunities in the discipline as
well as the use of modelling and simulation as a teaching and research tool at
both the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. Broader based and more
extensive application of modelling and simulation techniques within Ottawa's
technology, research and government community will be actively promoted. More
specifically, the goals are as follows:
Research:
During the reorganization year,
research was concentrated on the following areas:
-
DEVS
-
HLA
-
Ethics
Contract work:
A project for the Canadian Department of National Defense is underway by five members of the OC-MISS.
Teaching:
The following courses are offered:
CSI 4124/SYS 5110 Foundations of
Modelling and Simulation, School of Information Technology and Engineering,
University of Ottawa, (Fall 2001).
94.587. Methodological Aspects on
Modelling and Simulation, Prof: G.
Wainer, Department of Systems and

Seminar series:
A seminar series has been started in Ottawa..
Resource library:
Dr. Tuncer Ören and Dr. Louis G. Birta are donating their collections of M&S material, as well as Systems books and proceedings, to the library of University of Ottawa. The collection, with the existing collection of the University of Ottawa, will be a solid source of information on modelling and simulation and will be accessible through interlibrary loans.
Interactions with other Centers within the MISS Network:
The following are planned:
Development of M&S curricula - with the Chico and the Mexico Centers
Joint research – with Hungarian Center
The interactions with other Centers will be explored.
